Social media isn’t for the faint-hearted. Like it or not, but you have to make peace with the moral policing and being trolled for your views, especially if you’re a celeb.

Several Hollywood celebrities, including Daisy Ridley, Leslie Jones and rapper Azelia Banks, have quit social media over the negativity that came their way.

And when it all takes a toll, popular names often quit the platform altogether. Recent examples include actors Daisy Ridley, Leslie Jones and rapper Azelia Banks.

Ridley, 24, deleted her Instagram account after she received backlash for urging the world to stop gun violence. The British actor was trolled for “killing people” in movies. However, she returned once to clarify that she wanted to spend “less” time on her phone.

Jones, too, got flak but on Twitter. “It’s like when you think ‘Okay, I’ve proven I’m worthy’, you get hit with a shovel of hatred. I’m numb...I’m not stupid to not know racism exists. And I know it will probably live on way after me. But we have to make people take responsibility...for the hate they spew. We have to stand up to it,” she wrote in her farewell post, , after sharing some of the abusive posts she got from fans.

For Banks, it was “constant monitoring” that got to her. “I’m tired of having everything I say or do be monitored and I’m tired of being told how I should be behaving. I’m quitting Facebook, and any other form of social media that allows me to engage with people. My legacy can’t live and die on the Internet,” she wrote on the platform.
