Danny Boyle’s dream of long years is now beginning to come true. He has just started the principal photography for the yet-to-be titled biopic on the techie guru and Apple founder, Steve Jobs, who died in October 2011.
Michael Fassbender – who did memorable parts in Quentin Tarantino’s war film, Inglorious Basterds, and in 12 Years A Slave, a historical drama that fetched him an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor – will essay Jobs, and the shoot is underway in San Francisco.
Kate Winslet will be seen on the screen as former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels as ex-Apple CEO John Sculley
Based on a screenplay by the Academy winning author of The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin, the movie was also delayed because the light was not turning green. In the beginning, Sony had roped in David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network) to helm the Jobs biopic, and Leonardo DiCaprio was to have portrayed the hero.
However, Sony stepped out, and its rival studio, Universal, is now in. One reason for this change was the December scandal in Sony with leaked emails revealing that Fincher was being pressured by Angelina Jolie – who was keen he directs her work on Cleopatra.

Boyle – who is best known in India for Slumdog Millionaire (which catapulted Frieda Pinto into international stardom) – will follow a three-act structure in his new movie.
Slumdog Millionaire was both loved and hated, with the late Greek master, Theo Angelopoulos, once telling me during an interview in Mumbai that the film was a “celebration of poverty”. He added, “I just could not stand it”. The maker of such classics as Landscape in the Mist, Ulysses’ Gaze and Eternity and a Day died tragically in a road accident in 2012. A motorcycle knocked him down as he was crossing a road to get into the studio.
Boyle’s biopic will follow an earlier one in 2013 called Jobs with Ashton Kutcher. It was panned by critics and struggled at the box office.
