Hollywood actor Russell Crowe is in negotiations to play Superman's father, Jor-El in the Zack Snyder-directed reboot of Superman franchise, the Hollywood Reporter said.

If Crowe, who won a best actor Oscar for his role in Gladiator, accepts the role, he will be joined by names such as Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as the flying hero's Earth-bound dad, Michael Shannon as villain General Zod and Amy Adams as Clark's love interest Lois Lane.

The role will see Crowe playing a scientist who foresees the destruction of his planet and squires his infant son into an escape rocket bound for Earth.
