Actor Tannishtha Chatterjee, known for her roles in films like Brick Lane (2007) and the Abhay Deol-starrer Road, Movie (2010), has just wrapped up work on the Jude Law and Keira Knightley-starrer Anna Karenina.
Directed by Atonement (2007) maker Joe Wright, the film is an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic. The film has an entirely international cast and interestingly, Tannishtha — who plays a gypsy girl called Masha — is the only coloured actor in it. “She has an interesting role, but she doesn’t have scenes with Jude and Keira. Since it’s a very elaborate classic, the makers had arranged for several rehearsals and preparatory programs, which is when she met and bonded with the two stars,” reveals an insider.
When contacted, Tannishtha says: “Yes, I can confirm my presence in the film. We’ve completed the principal photography. But I am bound by a contract to not get into details till the embargo is lifted. All I can say is that it was exciting to work with Joe. He has an amazing and creative mind. I had a fabulous time working on the film.”

Other actors in Anna Karenina include Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald and Olivia Williams. It has mostly been shot on lavish sets in and around London, though the makers have also filmed a part of it on real locations besides going to Russia for some “naturalistic scenes”. It hits theatres in the UK on September 7.
