It’s officially the third biggest movie of all time, with massive earnings at the box office. Filmmaker Joss Whedon’s Avengers has officially overtaken last year’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, to become the third biggest title of all time at the worldwide box office. The superhero hit has scored big at the by earning $1.331 billion — toppling Harry Potter franchise’s record of $1.328 billion.
However, the number one position is held by filmmaker James Cameron’s, Avatar (2009) which stars actors Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Michelle Rodriguez, with $2.8 billion in earnings. It’s followed by the cult classic, multiple Academy Award winning film, Titanic (1997), which has earned $2.185 billion at the box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Within 19 days of its release, The Avengers matched the record for speedy earnings, previously set by Avatar and Deathly Hallows. The film is also the highest-grossing movie of 2012 till now, after The Hunger Games, which stars actors Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
