Sofia Boutella’s Princess Ahmanet till now has been the sole focus (apart from Tom Cruise’s Nick Morton) in the trailers of the Mummy as the sinister eponymous Egyptian Mummy, out to spell global destruction. Russell Crowe’s character has been an interesting element in the movie, and things are just getting better.

We know that the reboot is expected to kick off the Universal Monsterverse where a myriad monsters will also exist. Johnny Depp has already been cast as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem for Frankenstein’s Monster, Tom Cruise’s Nick Morton, too, is expected to be more than what he is being portrayed as and rumours suggest he may be Van Helsing. But, it is Russell Crowe’s Dr.Hyde reveal in the latest featurette from the movie that has got the Internet buzzing.

The reveal comes during the closing moments of Syfy Wire’s featurette, which has cast and crew discussing how they’re attempting to ground the fantastical elements of the story in science and reality. We see a tad bit more of Jekyll and learn about his unique qualifications that include hunting monsters, and it isn’t long before Crowe transforms into Mr. Hyde, teasing that The Mummy will be focussing on more than just one villain like its predecessors.

We do not gather much from the reveal since it just shows a bit of his transformation, but it would be interesting to see Crowe in a Hulk-like Mr.Hyde avatar. Whether this reveal is merely an Easter egg-ish scene or does it actually lead to the film being more than just about the Mummy remains to be seen, but its success could mean a lot for the future of the shared Monsterverse.
