James Cameron re-released his masterwork, Avatar, on Friday, in a bid to engage a wider audience to his magnanimous world of Pandora. But more than opening a Pandora’s box, Cameron chose to simply intersperse nine minutes of uncut footage to his December 2009 release. The film broke box office records when it was released last year, raking in $2.7 billion worldwide. For Avatar fans it’s a great treat, but it takes an expert vision to notice the new unseen footage.

After Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) has been inducted in the Na’vi clan, Neyitri (Zoe Saldana) and he head out for an aerial ride.

Together they hunt a herd of Strumbeests, a new species of animals.

The mating sequence, under the tree of souls between Neyitri and Sully, is extended with Neyitri describing in detail what it means for the Na’vi to unite in love.
