A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and then murdered at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, police said on Monday.

The girl, a student of Class 9, received a phone call from a known person on Saturday evening and left her house, superintendent of police Manik Das told reporters. Dharmanagar is about 220 km from state capital Agartala.

Her body with multiple injuries was recovered from an abandoned house on Link Road around Saturday midnight.
Police on Sunday arrested a person named Rajat Tanti (22), who “admitted” to police that he raped and murdered the girl, the SP said.
