6 CRPF personnel hurt in Srinagar grenade attack

Officials said the suspected militants lobbed a grenade on a CRPF deployment at Karanagar area of the city in the evening.

At least six personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar on Saturday evening, in the fourth such attack in the Valley since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was removed on August 5, officials said.

Officials said the suspected militants lobbed a grenade on a CRPF deployment at Karanagar area of the city in the evening.

“Six CRPF men were injured. All of them have minor injuries,” CRPF’s special director general (J-K Zone) Zulfiquar Hasan said.

The CRPF’s spokesperson Pankaj Singh said that Bravo 144 battalion of CRPF was the target of the attack.

“The attack was on CRPF deployment who were on ‘night area domination’. We are on the spot and ascertaining the exact number of injuries,” Singh said.

More security forces were rushed to the spot after the attack. The operation is going on to trace the attacker, said Hasan.

At least seven people, including a woman, were injured in a grenade attack in a market place at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar two weeks ago on October 12.

On October 5, at least 14 people, including two women and a policeman, were injured in a grenade attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Last month, CRPF had claimed that its men on law and order duties in Srinagar were targeted by a grenade which did not cause any damage.
