The Centre has announced that it is going to launch the Covid-19 vaccination on January 16. Various state governments have announced their plans for the inoculation, which will first be given to health care and frontline workers.
The date for vaccination was decided at a meeting of a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Three rounds of nationwide dry runs have already taken place where health authorities have identified gaps and weak areas.

- Delhi: Health minister Satyendar Jain said on Sunday that 89 hospitals have been finalised in the national capital for the inoculation programme in the first phase. Out of these, 26 are government hospitals and 53 private, Jain said at a press conference. The Delhi health minister also said the vaccine vials are likely to reach the national capital by January 12-13.
- Rajasthan: Around 4.5 lakh health care workers will be vaccinated in the first phase in the state, health minister Raghu Sharma said on Sunday. Sharma also said that data of 4,36,146 government and private sector health care workers had been uploaded on the Co-WIN - an application for vaccination registration - by 1 pm on Saturday. He said the first phase of vaccination will be conducted at 282 sessions sites from January 16 onwards. Of them, two sites namely Jaipur and Ajmer will be interactive.
- Goa: The Goa government has identified eight hospitals for the first phase of Covid-19 vaccination where around 18,000 health care workers will receive the doses, an official said on Sunday. As many as 100 vaccinations would be done at each of these eight facilities in a day, which amounts to 800 inoculations per day, according to state immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar. The state government has identified five government- run hospitals and three private facilities for the exercise. Around 18,000-odd health care workers will receive doses during the first phase.
- West Bengal: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has written an open letter, where she said that Covid-19 warriors, including police, home guards, civil defence volunteers, correctional home and disaster management employees, will be administered the vaccine on a priority basis. She also said that the government is making arrangements to give the vaccine to all people of the state free of any charge.
- Telangana: Vaccine would be administered at 139 centres on January 16 with two to three centres being set up in each district, an official release quoted health minister Eatala Rajender as saying. The minister also said that he would take the first shot to instil confidence in the people. A total of 13,900 would be administered the vaccine in the 139 centres on the first day and 2,90,000 healthcare personnel working in the public and private sector have registered their names for the vaccine, the state government said.
- Bihar: The state government is fully geared up to carry out the vaccination drive for Covid-19 in the state. At least 4.62 lakh healthcare professionals have registered on Co-WIN portal, the Bihar health department said. Health authorities said that colour-coded bags will be kept at each vaccination centre for management of biowaste materials that will be generated after vaccination. Vaccines will be transported from store located at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital in Patna to regional stores.
- India will launch its Covid-19 vaccination drive from January 16 in what PM Modi has called the world's largest inoculation programme with priority to be given to nearly three crore healthcare and frontline workers.
- After healthcare and frontline workers, priority will be given to those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups with co-morbidities, together numbering around 27 crore, a government statement said.
- According to the Health Ministry guidelines on Covid-19 vaccination, the latest electoral roll for Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections will be used to identify the population aged 50 years or more.
