A girl student in Aligarh was allegedly slapped by a school principal after she paid her education fees with a Rs 500 note.

Neeraj, a Class 12 student and a resident of Kheria Gurudev village in Aligarh’s Iglas area, said: “Principal of Shanti Vidya Niketan (Basai) Ramji Lal school demanded fees on Thursday. When I deposited Rs 500 note, he slapped me and told me that the old currency has been discontinued.”
Neeraj said the teachers at the school intervened after the incident.
“I was unaware of demonetisation of old notes,” the student added.
VP Singh, Kotwali police station in-charge confirmed that the girl’s father had lodged a complaint.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in a televised address earlier this week that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will be abolished from Tuesday midnight, in a move to crackdown on black money in the Indian economy.
