Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of Prayagraj incident and called a high-level meeting at his residence.

He ordered a high-level inquiry into the whole matter and also gave instructions for the formation of a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) in the matter.

"According to preliminary reports, three assailants posing as media persons opened fire at Atiq Ahmad and his brother Asharaf," says a UP Police official, according to PTI reports.

BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali in response to mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's death said, “It is disheartening to see UP Police being used for political gains. Court gives punishment to culprits. This murder has challenged the power of state govt. This is pure anarchy. It will lead to nowhere.”
