The clash between the supporters of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar came after the two MLAs themselves had a heated exchange.

An official said that the Mumbai police registered a case against Awhad for obstructing public servants in discharging their duty while staging a protest at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan.

Both Padalkar and Awhad expressed regret in the House over the scuffle between their supporters.

Maharashtra legislative assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar said that the associates of the two MLAs, involved in Thursday's scuffle and detained by the security personnel of the state legislature, will face breach of privilege of the House.
