A charred body of a purported militant was found in South Kashmir’s Tral area, ground zero of militancy in the trouble-torn state.
A police spokesman said they recovered the body after locals noticed it and informed them.
He said the militant died while trying to assemble explosives to trigger a blast in Tral. His identity was being ascertained.
A letter written in Urdu which was found on the body identified the deceased as a Pakistani militant who was killed while assembling an improvised explosive device (IED).
The letter claims the deceased is not an informer or any civilian but a militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad who lost his life while assembling an IED at a hideout in Tral.
It Identifies him as Umar Bhai of Pakistan. The letter further appeals to people to lay him to rest as soon as possible.
Director general of police S P Vaid also confirmed the incident in a tweet.
Tral is the home turf of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, whose killing in an encounter last year sparked violent protests across the state.
