The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) will hold its 86th convocation ceremony on August 22 after a last-minute postponement. The institute has invited CS Pramesh, director of the Tata Memorial Hospital, as the chief guest.
The institute had originally invited Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to preside over the function. (PTI)
It was widely reported that CJI Surya Kant would be the chief guest on the occasion, although the institute had not announced in his name in public.
TISS sources said on Tuesday that the CJI’s office informed the institute that his calendar was full until November, and hence he would not be able to attend the convocation, according to news agency PTI.
The convocation was originally slated for August 2, but just 48 hours before that, the institute sent out an email saying the event had been postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Campus sources said the TISS administration had postponed the convocation, fearing protests during the function.
The convocation will be held at the institute’s Naoroji campus in Deonar and will be attended by graduating students from its campuses across the country.
