Fadnavis is provoking: Karnataka CM Bommai on 'no village will go...' statement

The Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute is at the centrestage with Fadnavis and Bommai face-off. Fadnavis said no village will go anywhere to which Bommai accused the deputy CM of issuing provocative statements.

The decades-long border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka has flared up with Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai attacking each other. Fadnavis on Wednesday assured that no village from Maharashtra will go anywhere, replying to which Bommai called Fadnavis's statement provocative.

Karnataka chief ministe Basavaraj Bommai and Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis engaged in a war of words over the border dispute.

"Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a provocative statement on the Karnataka Maharashtra border issue and his dream will never come true. Our government is committed to protecting the country's land, water and borders," Bommai said.

Fadnavis on Wednesday clarified that no such resolution has been made in the recent past and that the resolution that Bommai referred to was in 2012. "Not a single village of Maharashtra will go anywhere," Fadnavis said.

NCP leader Supriya Sule said now Karnataka and Maharashtra have the same ruling party and rekindling the border dispute will not serve the interest of either of the state.

What is the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute?

The border dispute dates back to the time when the states were formed. Maharashtra claimed 865 villages on the border should have been merged with Maharashtra, while Karnataka claims 260 villages ok Kannada speaking population.
