Heavy rainfall swept across Delhi-NCR, including Gurugram, on Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the region. The nowcast warning for "extremely heavy rainfall" remains in effect until 3:20 pm.
Videos circulating on social media showed waterlogging in several parts of Gurugram after heavy rainfall. The visuals showed flooded roads, with rainwater accumulating on key stretches across the city.
Traffic movement slows across key stretches
The rain significantly slowed traffic on several of Gurugram's busiest roads during the day. Commuters faced long queues on routes including Sikanderpur, IFFCO Chowk, Ashoka Marg in Sushant Lok Phase 1, and the stretch between Millennium City Centre Metro Station and Bakhtawar Chowk. Traffic also moved slowly on parts of National Highway (NH) 48 towards Manesar, earlier HT reported.

{{/usCountry}}Congestion extended to the Sirhaul border, where vehicles crawled on both carriageways connecting Delhi and Gurugram. Similar conditions were reported on the route from Signature Towers to Tau Devi Lal Complex via Sector 15 Part 2. Old Railway Road leading towards Tau Devi Lal Complex, MG Road towards Sadar Bazar, Sector 9 to Basai village, and the Sector 54-55 Chowk also witnessed heavy traffic snarls.

Waterlogging affects residential localities
The impact of the rain was not limited to arterial roads, as several residential neighbourhoods also reported waterlogging. Flooded internal lanes affected local movement, adding to residents' difficulties during the downpour.
Road caved in
In Sector 59, residents reported that a section of a service road near Revenue Road caved in after the heavy rainfall. The incident marks the sixth road cave-in reported in Gurugram during the ongoing monsoon season.

A junior Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) official said the matter had come to the civic body's notice and that officials would inspect the site before commenting further.
The IMD has cautioned that heavy spells may continue to trigger waterlogging in vulnerable and low-lying areas. According to the weather department, rainfall activity is expected to weaken from July 30, but heavy rain is forecast to continue over the next 24 hours.
