Heavy rains likely in Tamil Nadu's western districts

As the southwest monsoon gains full traction, Tamil Nadu is likely to receive widespread rainfall on Friday and Saturday. The western districts like Coimbatore and the Nilgiris are going to receive very heavy rainfall in these two days, IMD warned.

‘Early’ monsoon may now be ‘most delayed’

Monsoon was racing through the country in early June, and the Met predicted last month it may hit Delhi by June 15, the earliest in the period for which data is available, before it suddenly slowed down and appeared to hit a “break” phase.

IMD issues red alert for very heavy rainfall in 3 districts in Karnataka

“Red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall issued in Dakshin Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts for today and tomorrow. Orange alert issued in Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts for the same period,” the IMD Karnataka said.

Weekend may be cooler after rain spell: IMD

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s regional weather forecast centre, said till 7pm Friday, the Safdarjung weather station, which is considered the official marker for the city, received around 6mm rain.
The Palam weather station received 2mm rain, Lodhi Road 4.1mm, Aya Nagar 2.1mm and the Ridge received 0.5mm of rain on Friday.

Light rain expected due to western disturbance

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s regional weather forecasting centre, said, “We are expecting light rain in the morning on account of a western disturbance. The wind speed is also likely to pick up.”

Telangana records 50% excess rainfall this monsoon season

According to the official figures obtained from the state agriculture department, the state received an average rainfall of 1078.30 mm as on Wednesday, as against the normal rainfall of 720.4 mm since the monsoon entered the state in the second week of June.
While Mulugu district received the highest rainfall of 1916 mm, Nalgonda received the lowest rainfall of 636 mm. Out of 33 districts, as many as 27 districts received an excess rainfall of 20 per cent or more. (ANI photo)

Heavy rainfall overnight causes waterlogging in Mumbai, disrupts traffic

The Santacruz observatory recorded 286.4 mm rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday, making it the fourth highest rainfall in Mumbai since 1974, an IMD official said.
