Three persons were killed and six others injured after four motorcycles collided on the Kanwar stretch along the Ganga canal in Haridwar’s Kaliyar area on Friday night, police said.

The accident took place on the Kaliyar road, popularly known as the Kanwar Patri in Uttarakhand, amid poor visibility due to darkness and rain, police officers said, adding that the two motorcycles travelling in opposite directions collided head-on, following which two other bikes coming from behind rammed into the vehicles.

“As soon as information about the accident was received, police teams from Civil Lines and Kaliyar police stations reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Three youths died, while six others were injured. Postmortem of the deceased were conducted and our further legal formalities are underway,” Superintendent of Police (rural) SC Suyal said.
Police identified the deceased as Ayan (18) from Bijauli; Raju Singh (24) from Rehmatpur; and Rajeev Singh (22) from Saharanpur.

Police officers said that of the six injured people, Aditya Chandra (24) from Khanjanpur was critically injured. He was referred by doctors at Roorkee Civil Hospital to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, for further treatment.
