Instead, her neighbours were busy shooting her video, which was shared widely on social media. The video shows the bleeding woman, shouting and crying in pain.

The victim has been identified as Sanju, a resident of a Baroli village in Safidon subdivision. She was stabbed with a woodcutter (aari) in her stomach, shoulder and knee by her husband Naresh, allegedly on suspicion of an illicit relationship.

The police said the incident took place on the evening of June 30 when Naresh came back home drunk and threw chilli powder in his wife’s eyes. He then attacked her with a woodcutter. When she started crying in pain, the neighbours gathered at her house and he fled the spot, warning to kill her “whenever he finds another chance”.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, which referred her to the medical college hospital at Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat. She is now in stable condition and has been discharged.

“The accused has been arrested and booked under Sections 323, 324 and 506 of the IPC. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered. He was produced in a court and remanded in police custody,” the IO said.
