Heated argument between BSP, BJP leaders at Amroha Railway Station revamp event
Verbal spat between BSP MP and BJP MLC over 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' slogan at government event in Uttar Pradesh.
A verbal spat broke out between BSP MP Danish Ali and BJP MLC Hari Singh Dhillon during an official event at Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly after BJP workers raised slogans praising their party. As Dhillon began his address amid sloganeering, he was approached by Danish Ali and the two begin to have an argument.
Dhillon after the event told reporters that he had raised the "Bharat Mata ki Jai" slogan which was objected to by Ali. “He told me that it was a government event. What is wrong with raising Bharat Mata ki Jai slogan at a government event? He shouldn't have done it.”
Ali, however, said the entire stage was occupied by BJP workers and other functionaries who raised slogans praising their leaders and the BJP.
"I was invited by the Railway ministry for the programme as the local MP. And it was due to my efforts that two stations from my constituency (Amroha) were taken for modernisation," Ali told PTI.
"First of all, the entire stage was taken over by the BJP workers. I also spoke to the railway officials that how come a former MP from BJP, its city and district unit presidents, and workers, all were allowed on stage and allowed to address the gathering.
"They were raising slogans in praise of their leaders and of the party. I objected to this saying that this is a government-organised programme and how can you convert it into a political programme?" the BSP MP said.
Responding to Dhillon's allegations, Ali said, “Those who never took part in the freedom struggle want to teach us patriotism.”
The BSP MP said the BJP members were trying to convert a government event into their party event.
“Protocol should be maintained in a government event.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country via video conferencing. Addressing the event, he accused the opposition of playing "negative politics" and said now the entire country is rooting for corruption, dynasty and appeasement to 'quit India'.
He alleged a section of the opposition is driven by the principle of neither working nor letting others work.
"Unfortunately, in our country, there is a section of the opposition who even today won't do anything themselves and won't allow others to do anything either. They are stuck with this attitude.
"So, concerned about the country's present and the future a modern Parliament building was built, the symbol of democracy which has representation of both the government and the Opposition. They even opposed that. We developed Kartavya Path and they opposed that as well," he said.
