The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested a Kashmiri student studying in Bathinda’s Central University of Punjab, in connection with a car explosion that targeted a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the Srinagar–Jammu highway last month.
The accused, identified as Hilal Ahmad Mantoo, hails Chakura village in Pulwama district and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education at Central University of Punjab.
Confirming the arrest, Bathinda senior superintendent of police Nanak Singh said that a team of the J&K police, led by deputy superintendent of police Iftikhar Chaudhary, along with a team of Punjab Police arrested the accused, a hosteler, from the university campus.
Although police officials remain tight lipped about the case, a daily diary report lodged in this connection at Bathinda Sadar police station, reveals that the accused has been booked in connection with a car blast on March 30 at Banihal in J&K.
An explosion had taken place in a Hyundai Santro when a CRPF convoy was crossing the place.
A CRPF vehicle, which was part of a convoy from Srinagar to Jammu, was damaged in the blast but no one was injured.
