Kerala actress abduction: AMMA artistes want woman judge to hear case
The victim opposed the latest move of AMMA saying she doesn’t need anybody’s help in the case.
Two women artistes, who are members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), on Friday filed a petition in Kerala high court seeking a woman judge in the actress abduction and assault case, although the victim opposed the move.
Actors Rachana Narayankutty and Honey Rose filed the petition as the court was about to take up a plea of the accused actor Dileep seeking a probe by the CBI.
However, the victim opposed the latest move of AMMA saying she doesn’t need anybody’s help in the case.
She said she was not a member of AMMA and suspected a ploy to delay the trial. She had already moved a petition in the high court, with a plea to appoint a woman judge.
The state government opposed Dileep’s demand to change the public prosecutor and said that an accused can’t dictate which agency should probe the case against him.
The actress was allegedly abducted and assaulted by a gang in a moving car in February 2017. They set her free after three hours, but threatened to circulate a video of the assault if she approached the police.
However, she filed a complaint the same day. Dileep, who is accused of plotting the abduction and sexual assault of the actress in an alleged act of vengeance using a gang, was arrested five months later.
He was expelled from AMMA soon after his arrest and but he was taken back last month, which led to the resignation of three actresses, including Parvathi.
