President Kovind’s speech highlights: We must ensure women have the freedom to choose, says President on Independence Day address

The address was broadcast from 7:00 pm on all networks of the All India Radio (AIR) and telecast on Doordarshan channels.

In last year’s speech, the President had laid down markers for a New India, one that would be compassionate towards the disadvantaged and would not discriminate on the basis of gender or religion. He had also highlighted steps undertaken by the Modi government to improve the economy and fight corruption, and hailed citizens for their contribution.
