DMK chief M Karunanidhi Karunanidhi’s condition has not changed as he is being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, his son and party’s working president MK Stalin has said.
“The same status as stated in the bulletin continues ... Doctors are monitoring and providing intensive care,” Stalin said late on Monday night.
He was referring to the medical bulletin issued on Sunday by Kauvery Hospital.
The 94-year-old was moved to the hospital on Saturday at 1.30am in critical condition and had suffered a temporary setback on Sunday night.
The hospital said on Sunday that after a “transient setback in the clinical condition” of Karunanidhi, the five-time chief minister who has never lost an election, and that his vital signs were normalising with active medical support.
But his family and the hospital said that he has since recovered.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will travel to Chennai on Tuesday to meet Karunanidhi at the Kauvery Hospital.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar was among several leaders, including those from Sri Lanka, who visited the hospital on Monday and enquired about Karunanidhi’s with Stalin and his daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.

{{/usCountry}}DMK workers and supporters continued to swarm the hospital premises at upscale Alwarpet area of the state capital as they prayed for the ailing leader. Police appealed to them to avoid crowding the area and Stalin also asked them to maintain calm and cooperate in maintaining law and order.
Karunanidhi was being treated for fever due to a urinary tract infection with intravenous antibiotics and fluids at his home before falling blood pressure necessitated admission to the hospital.
