Panipat gurdwara wall collapse: Rescue operations over, death toll reaches 5

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased, Rs 2 lakh for seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh for injured.

More than two days after a portion of Gurdwara Peehli Pashahi building caved in, the National Disaster Response Force team recovered another body, taking the toll to five.

The body of sewadar Devendra Singh was recovered on Wednesday morning, said police sources.

Other deceased have been identified as 38-year-old migrant labourer Badshah of Bareilly, Rati Ram (45) and Deepak (24) of Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh and sewadar Darshan Singh. The district administration officials confirmed that the rescue operations had ended, with bodies of all four trapped under the debris been recovered.

Soon after the rescue operations concluded, sources said, the district administration sealed the gurdwara premises. A five-member committee, formed under Panipat additional deputy commissioner Rajiv Mehta, has startedinvestigation behind the incident.
