The winter session that began on December 7 will continue till December 29 with a total of 17 working days. The Centre's agenda for this session includes introducing 16 new bills.

The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 has been passed by the Rajya Sabha on Monday. It has already been successfully introduced in the Lok Sabha. It seeks to help achieve COP26 goals & introduce use of non-fossil sources & carbon credit trading to ensure faster decarbonisation of Indian economy.

If the bill is passed, the Centre or any authorised agency may issue carbon credit certificates to entities registered and compliant with the scheme. Any other person may also purchase a carbon credit certificate on a voluntary basis.
