Murmu to attend Karunanidhi centenary, inaugurate hospital
Stalin met the President in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to invite her. Murmu agreed to attend the centenary celebration being held in June in memory of Stalin’s father and former chief minister M Karunanidhi and to inaugurate a multi-super speciality hospital in Chennai.
President Droupadi Murmu on Friday accepted Tamil Nadu chief minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M K Stalin’s invitation to participate in two events in Chennai, the government statement said.
Stalin met the President in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to invite her. Murmu agreed to attend the centenary celebration being held in June in memory of Stalin’s father and former chief minister M Karunanidhi and to inaugurate a multi-super speciality hospital in Chennai.
Earlier, on Karunanidhi’s 97th birth anniversary on June 3 in 2021, Stalin had announced setting up of the hospital on the campus of the King Institute of Preventive Medicine & Research Centre in Chennai’s Guindy. The construction of the 1000-bed hospital, built at an estimated cost of ₹230 crore, has been completed now . The seven-storeyed hospital has departments for oncology, cardiology, radiology and more and covers an area of about 51,429 square meters.
“Hon’ble President of India has given consent to inaugurate the hospital in Guindy, Chennai, and to participate in the Centenary Celebration to be held at YMCA Ground, Nandanam on June 5, 2023,” said a statement from the state government. Stalin also presented a copy of a biography, “Karunanidhi: A Life” to Murmu. Later he met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Delhi airport.
Stalin reached Delhi on Friday early morning after his flight from Chennai was delayed on Thursday night. The DMK-president was received by parliamentary party leader T R Baalu who accompanied him to the President’s residence.
