AIADMK pulls out of NDA ahead of LS polls

ED searches 30 locations across TN in illegal sand mining case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted simultaneous searches in about 30 locations in Tamil Nadu over alleged illegal sale of sand mined from riverbeds. The searches were carried out in the districts of Trichy, Namakkal, Vellore, and Karur, targeting sand mining contractors and associates of a minister who was arrested in a corruption case. The raids are seen as targeted against a senior DMK leader who holds water and mining portfolios in the state. The ED is investigating allegations of offline sales of sand mined from riverbeds, which is supposed to be sold only online through the water resources department.

Madras high court reviews acquittals of two more TN leaders in graft cases

The Madras High Court has taken up a review of the discharge of two senior politicians in corruption cases, bringing the total number of such reviews to six. The judge expressed concern over the number of cases and suggested the need for an anti-corruption ombudsman similar to Karnataka's Lokayukta. The court has issued notices to four other senior politicians. The development comes after a request for the judge to recuse himself from the proceedings. The DMK has stated that they will take the issue to the Supreme Court.
