In a move to increase the number of beneficiaries of Prime Minister’s schemes, the Railways has asked its permanent and contractual employees to get enrolled in Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojana (PMJJBY).

Railway board chairman Ashwani Lohani, in a letter to general managers, has said that these schemes are of national importance and action plan for its implementation should be submitted to him. “We should encourage our employees and also contractual workers to join the schemes and avail the benefits,” Lohani said in the letter.
Railways has appointed different nodal officers for staff and contractual workers and along with the letter have circulated the summary of eligibility, premium, validity and risk coverage of these two schemes.
Railway has over 13 lakh staff and about the same number of contractual staff working on different projects.“We should ensure maximum possible coverage to workers under the above schemes,” said Lohani.
