Missing Rajasthan couple found dead, bodies stuffed inside trunk at Udaipur home

The bodies of 65-year-old Lahri Lal Paliwal and his wife Radha Devi, 62, were found in a trunk at their Rajasthan home after they went missing.

The bodies of a couple who went missing on Wednesday were found stuffed inside a trunk at their house in Poonawali village in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district on Friday morning, police said.

The couple had reportedly been missing since the morning of August 12.

Police identified the deceased as 65-year-old Lahri Lal Paliwal and 62-year-old Radha Devi. Paliwal used to sell milk for a living, and the couple lived alone at their house, officers said.

“The bodies of Lahri Lal Paliwal and his wife Radha Devi were found inside a trunk at their house. Prima facie, it appears that the couple may have been murdered late Tuesday night,” Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sayra police station Shaitan Singh Nathawat said.

Police said the couple’s neighbours became suspicious when Lahri Lal did not deliver milk. A neighbour who went to check found the door open and the house empty. The neighbours informed their son, Manohar, who works in Rajkot, Gujarat.

After failing to locate them, Manohar lodged a missing person report with the police. He told police that he had spoken to his mother over the phone on Tuesday night. The following morning, he was informed that both his parents were missing.

On Thursday, villagers staged a protest and surrounded the Sayra police station, demanding that the elderly couple be traced at the earliest.

Police have begun questioning neighbours and other suspects. The exact motive behind the deaths and the circumstances in which the couple was killed are being investigated, officers said.
