Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday held a road show in Guwahati as he arrived in the city for a two-day campaign ahead of the April 9 assembly polls in Assam.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s candidates Pradyut Bordoloi (Dispur), Vijay Gupta (Central Guwahati), Diplu Ranjan Sharma (New Guwahati), and the state party chief president Dilip Saikia accompanied Shah.
Shah later presided over a meeting of BJP office bearers at the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati to take stock of the campaign and strategy. On Sunday, Shah will address two election meetings for Cabinet ministers Ashok Singhal (Dhekiajuli) and Chandra Mohan Patowary (Tihu).
Shah is scheduled to visit the state again before the end of campaigning on April 7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to join the campaign and visit the state twice.
The BJP is contesting 90 of the 126 seats in the state. Its allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front, have fielded 26 and 11 candidates. The AGP and the BJP will have a “friendly contest” in Sibsagar.
