Suspected militants fired at a CRPF camp at Panzgam in Awantipora area of south Kashmir on Thursday evening, barely a few days after an attack by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed left six soldiers and a civilian dead at an army camp in Jammu.
Though entire details were not available, police said several shots were fired at the camp of the 185 battalion of CRPF around 8pm.
CRPF troops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for a brief period, police added.
The camp is located near the railway station at Awantipora.
“Everything is normal now. There was no loss of life or injury to anybody in the incident,” said an official manning the police control room at Awantipora.
After the incident, security forces conducted searches in the area to trace the attackers, whose identities were not known.
The attack came amid heightened security in Jammu and Kashmir following Saturday’s JeM attack at the army’s Sunjuwan camp. At least 11 other people, including civilians, were injured in the attack.
On Monday, another militant attempt to sneak into a CRPF camp in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar was foiled by security forces. Two militants were killed in a drawn-out encounter that ended a day later.
