Three people were killed and six others injured after a vehicle carrying pilgrims met with an accident near Bhowali in Nainital district of Uttarakhand on Thursday morning, police said.

A Scorpio carrying nine people, including children, was travelling from Izzat Nagar in Bareilly to Baba Neem Karoli Dham.

The vehicle met with an accident around 500 metres ahead of the Bhowali petrol pump towards Almora at around 9.30 am on Thursday.
Teams from the Nainital police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Fire Services reached the accident site and launched a rescue operation.
The injured were provided first aid at the Community Health Centre in Bhowali and later referred to a higher medical facility.
Police identified the deceased as Ganga Devi (55) and Brijesh Kumari (26), both residents of Chawan village in Bareilly district, and Nancy Gangwar (24), a resident of Pilibhit in Bareilly.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
