A 40-year-old man on Monday was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife two years ago at Gourangatilla in Tripura’s Khowai district, police said on Tuesday.

According to the prosecution, Pradip Nath Chowdhury hit his wife Pratima Nath Chowdhury (34) with a wooden object on April 6 in 2024.
She sustained serious injuries to her head and fractures to her hand and fingers. She was referred to Khowai district hospital and later to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital in Agartala, where she succumbed to her injuries.
A case was registered against Chowdhury on a complaint by the deceased’s father, and a charge sheet filed on August 31, 2024.
The court convicted him on Monday and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Pradip and Pratima had been married for six years and had a daughter.
