Tripura received its first batch of Covid-19 vaccines on Wednesday.
The first batch comprising 56,500 doses of Covishield vaccine from Serum Institute of India (SII) arrived here via flight from New Delhi. The doses have been taken to a special storage unit at National Health Mission (NHM) office from where they will be distributed to all eight district headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, said officials.
“The doses will be transferred to the district headquarters by today [Wednesday] and then will be taken to sub divisions, health sub centres and primary health centres from tomorrow [Thursday]. We expect to complete the process within two days,” said state immunisation officer Kallol Roy.

The state has ordered for ice-lined refrigerators (IRL) for storing vaccines. Eight vaccine stores have been set up in eight districts along with 145 cold-chain points at the health facility level. The state had already trained health personnel to handle the apparatus last December.
In the first phase, nearly 45,290 doctors, nurses and health workers have been enlisted as beneficiaries for the vaccination. A total of 152 centres have been identified across the state for vaccination.
The state recorded total 33,309 Covid-19 patients, of whom 386 died. A total of 32,857 patients have recovered from the disease, according to latest report of the health department.
