Police arrested two men on the suspicion of carrying explosives at Bagdogra airport in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district.

Police arrested two men on the suspicion of carrying explosives at Bagdogra airport in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district on Friday afternoon.

Anup Singh and Avay Prasad of Bihar were to board an Indigo flight to Kolkata.

Airport authorities suspected a white powdery substance they were carrying in small containers in their luggage were explosive material.

Electronic screening machines detected the substance and sniffer dogs were deployed. The authorities alerted CISF guards and they were handed to police thereafter.

The two men were returning from Sikkim. They work in Gurgaon.

Siliguri commissioner of police Neeraj Kumar Singh said detectives are investigating the case.

It couldn’t be immediately ascertained if the seized substance was narcotics, a plastic explosive or simple talcum powder.
