The incident happened in Kashi Ram Awas Colony in the town on Saturday, police said.

Iqbal, who remarried after his wife died a couple of years back, fixed the marriage of his minor daughters to two men from Bharatpur a few days back. It is alleged that the grooms, Haider and Anwar, paid Rs 60,000 to Iqbal to marry his daughters aged 12 and 14 years.

An addict, Iqbal spent a lot of money on buying liquor and his father Sannu took care of his daughters.

As Sannu got to know about the marriage ceremony, he rushed to Acchnera police station to lodge a complaint in this regard.

Police have arrested four people in this connection and a case under Prevention of Child Marriage Act has been registered against them.

“When we came to know that minor girls were being married, we immediately reached Kashi Ram Awas Colony and stopped the marriage proceedings,” Subodh Kumar, in charge of Acchnera police station, said.
