At least 11 people, including seven children, were killed on Wednesday after a passenger pick-up van and a trailer truck collided in Rajasthan's Dausa district, authorities said on Wednesday.
The passengers of the pickup vehicle were returning to their village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah after visiting Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temple when the accident occurred on Manoharpur highway around 4-5 am, Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar told PTI. Those killed include seven children and four women, he said.
Twenty people were on board the pickup vehicle when it rammed into a stationary truck in the service lane of the highway, the SP said, adding that one of the eight injured is in critical condition.
Earlier, Dausa Dausa District Collector Devendra Kumar said that three people have been hospitalised and nine others have been referred for treatment.
Dausa District Collector Devendra Kumar initially informed about the incident, stating that 10 people have died. "According to initial reports, 10 people have died in an accident near Bapi. 9 people have been referred for treatment, and 3 are being treated in the District Hospital... The accident occurred between a passenger pick-up and a trailer truck," he said further.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Wednesday expressed grief following the incident and ordered prompt and proper treatment for the injured.
Sharing a post on X, CM Sharma said, "The news of loss of life in a horrific road accident in Dausa is extremely tragic. The district administration has been directed to ensure prompt and proper treatment for the injured. May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured."
