'Very impressed': Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot praises Murmu on her maiden speech
Murmu was sworn-in as the 15th President of the country on Monday. She was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India NV Ramanna.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot praised newly sworn-in president Droupadi Murmu after she delivered her maiden speech on Monday. "Every word in her speech had a meaning. I am very impressed,'' said the Congress leader. "The views expressed by a tribal woman are commendable. I hope she meets the commitment she made to the nation today," he also told the reporters.
Murmu was sworn-in as the 15th President of the country on Monday. She was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.
Murmu is the first tribal and second woman to hold the country's top constitutional post. She succeeded Ram Nath Kovind, whose term as India's 14th President, came to an end on Sunday.
In the acceptance speech after the ceremony, the 64-year-old leader said her elevation to the president's office is not only her own achievement but that of every poor of the country. She also said that the country's deprived, poor, Dalits and tribals can see their reflection in her which, she added, is a matter of big satisfaction for her.
She further said that it is the power of our democracy that a daughter born in a poor house, a daughter born in a remote tribal area, can reach the highest constitutional post of India. "With the spirit of the welfare of the world, I will always be ready to work with full loyalty and dedication," Murmu stated.
She also assured all the countrymen, especially the youth of India and the women of India, that while working in this position, their interests will be paramount to her.
Meanwhile, the former president Kovind has moved to his new residence at Janpath road. The same residence was once occupied by former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
