A CRPF jawan who had posted a video targeting home minister Rajnath Singh after losing a relative in the Sukma Maoist attack moved the Delhi high court on Thursday to seek protection once he surrenders before the director general of the paramilitary force.
Pankaj Kumar Misra, a jawan with the CRPF’s 221 battalion at Durgapur in West Bengal, said he fled from the force fearing for his life. A handwritten petition submitted to the high court stated that he was assaulted by his superiors after the video went viral.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar directed Misra to give himself up before the CRPF director general. He also asked the paramilitary force authorities to accept the jawan’s surrender, and said the video issue should be dealt with “as per the law”.
Mishra’s relative, Abhay Kumar, was among the 25 CRPF personnel killed in the Maoist attack.
The CRPF jawan is only the latest member of the armed forces to rant against alleged governmental apathy through the social media.
