Even as Assam and other parts of the northeast were struggling with floods that ended mid-July, a fresh spell of rain have created havoc, paralysing not just civic life but also bringing trade and business to a standstill.
But it’s not just humans who have had to bear the brunt of the deluge.
A video by an Assam-based journalist doing rounds on social media shows a group of men standing on a highway in deep, high current flood water when suddenly they notice a giant fish. It was so big that it took more than two men to handle and carry the fish to safety.
Though there was furore at finding a fish of that enormity, the video throws light at the struggles of small and big animals who have to negotiate the strong currents and are often swept away from their natural habitations into villages and cities.

{{/usCountry}}According to a July report in the Hindustan Times, over 90 animals, including seven rhinos, died due to flooding in the Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, home to two-thirds of the world’s one-horned rhinos.
The Assam forest department has deployed over 1,000 persons including staff on the National Highway to ensure passage of animals to the hills from low lying areas, says the report.
