The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) authorities on Saturday issued an alert that water will be released from the Pandoh Dam, which is situated 20 km upstream of Mandi town.

Due to a rise in incoming water flow in Pandoh Dam, authorities will release around 2,000 cusecs of water into the Beas river, due to which, the water flow in the Beas River will increase to over 6,000 cusecs, a release issued here said.
Authorities have requested locals living along the bank of Beas to avoid going near the river and not engage in any water related activities starting Saturday.
For the construction of the 990 MW Beas Satluj Link Project, the flow of Beas river had been diverted by constructing a diversion dam at Pandoh. However, when water levels are high during the summer and rainy season the excess water is released into Beas river.
The release of water sometimes creates havoc downstream in Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra districts, and has also caused loss of lives and widespread damage to property in the past.
