Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday ruled out an alliance with any party for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Mulayam said his party would go alone and retain power in the country’s most populous state.
Though the SP chief is averse to any tie-up with the Congress, his son and UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has maintained that if the two parties form an alliance, they will win more than 300 of the total 403 seats.

For his part, Akhilesh insists that the final call on the alliance proposal will be taken by his father.
The talks between the two parties are stuck on seat-sharing. While the Congress has been demanding 120-130 seats, the Samajwadi Party is unwilling to concede more than 60.
Akhilesh may contest from Bundelkhand
Meanwhile, the UP chief minister said some people had suggested that he should contest the assembly elections from a constituency in Bundelkhand region and he would present the proposal to his father. He said he was open to contesting for a Lower House seat in the forthcoming polls.
