A 28-year-old married woman was killed on Sunday allegedly in celebratory firing during a wedding in a village in Gujarat’s Botad district, police said
The incident took place in Rampara village of Gadhada tehsil in Botad.
Nita Gohil, died shortly after she was referred to a government hospital in Gadhada town on Sunday afternoon, said Gadhada police sub-inspector RB Karmatiya.
Gohil, a resident of Devdhari village, was part of the groom’s procession which arrived in Rampara, he said.
“As the groom’s procession arrived, someone fired one round from his gun to celebrate the moment. Witnesses claimed that a person in the crowd first loaded his gun and tried to fire in the air. However, the gun went off earlier. As a result, one bullet pierced Gohil’s back,” the officer added.
Though she was rushed to a government hospital in Gadhada, she died of the fatal injury, the official said.
“We have lodged an FIR on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the unidentified person for causing death of the woman through a negligent act,” added Karmatiya.
