The benchmark BSE index offloads some of the gains made in early trade due to selling in select counters.

The benchmark Sensex picked up moderately during afternoon trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday, helped by some buying activity on pharma counters.

The BSE 30-share index, which had closed nearly seven points down on Monday, was up by 60.55 points at 12,428.38 at mid-session.

Similarly, the Nifty index on the National Stock Exchange was up by 22.15 points at 3589.30.

Top gainers: NTPC (132.50), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1,422.00), Maruti Udyog (957.25), Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd (718.65), Grasim Industries Ltd (2,591.20), ACC Ltd (993.00), Ranbaxy Laboratories (425.00), Bharti Airtel (469.00), Infosys Technologies Ltd (1,916.85) and Cipla Ltd (264.00).

Top losers: Hindustan Lever Ltd (241.30), ICICI Bank (693.65), Bajaj Auto (3,072.00), Larsen & Toubro Ltd (1,287.05) and Reliance Energy (468.50).
