The accident, which injured three others including an assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI), threw traffic out of gear for about 45 minutes. The injured were discharged from hospital after treatment.

Manesar police station investigating officer Ghanshyam Kumar said the accident took place at 6 am when traffic police, led by ASI Krishan Kumar, were trying to remove a large truck that had broken down in the middle of the highway. The cops had parked their Maruti Gypsy ahead of the truck while a Matiz car was parked behind it. Three people riding in the Matiz, were standing on the road.

Suddenly, a speeding truck loaded with cement bags hit the Matiz first and then its occupants, dragging driver Dinesh Kumar along for about 25 metres. It then hit the truck that had broken down, as well as the Gypsy before hitting the ASI. Dinesh was killed on the spot.

The truck driver fled the site after abandoning his vehicle.
