Meerut:

10 of the 67 Kashmiri students of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) who allegedly cheered for Pakistan over India in a cricket match have been expelled while suspension of the other 57 were revoked.

The expelled students have been allowed to write their examination and thereafter will be sent back to their native places along with migration certificates. “We have allowed them to appear in examination on humanitarian ground to save their one year”, said Dr Manzoor Ahmad, vice-chancellor of SVSU.

Ahmad said that the students were expelled after the charges against the ten were proved by a committee formed to probe the charges under the leadership of Dr Geelani.

The committee found 57 other students, who were suspended along with the ten students, to be innocent. Suspensions of the 57 has been revoked. “We have taken affidavits from these students and special counselling session is being organised for them”, added the VC.

The local police are also probing the matter and they have recorded statements of university authorities and the committee members.
