10 per cent polling in Orissa

An estimated 10% of 1.27 crore voters cast their ballots in first two hours for Assembly polls in Orissa which so far remained peaceful.

An estimated 10 per cent of the 1.27 crore voters today cast their ballots in the first two hours for the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Orissa which so far remained peaceful.

Election Commission sources here said that an average 10 per cent polling was recorded in the 10 Lok Sabha and 70 Assembly constituencies where election was being held.

Reports pouring here from districts said that over 11 per cent voters have exercised their franchise in Balasore till 9 am while over 10 per cent polling was recorded in Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh.

Long queues could be seen in front of many booths since morning in some of the districts.

Polling, however, began on a dull note in the state capital Bhubaneswar.

No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state, the sources said.

An estimated 65 per cent polling was recorded in the first phase when election was held for 11 Lok Sabha and 77 Assembly seats on April 20.
