A man, who has several cases registered against him under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for carrying poppy husk.

Additional Sessions Judge BS Sandhu sentenced Darshan Singh under the NDPS Act and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh for keeping poppy husk in his house in Nihalsingh Wala of the district.

If Singh fails to pay the fine, he has to undergo one more year in jail, the court said.
Police had seized 80 bags of poppy husk in his house on June 26, 1998.
Singh is facing a number of cases under NDPS Act registered in various police stations of Moga, Bathinda, Faridkot, Nihalsingh Wala, Boha, Ludhiana and Raikot.
